We climbed Half-Dome this past weekend. As Truc put it, “One more thing you can cross off the list now.” It took us 15 hours, longer coming down than going up, because it got dark, and even with our flashlights, it was hard to see where to plant your foot safely for the next step. We had borrowed hiking poles from my aunt and uncle, and they were a lifesaver.
People mention the cables a lot, but few mention the steps up the cables, which are harrowing too. When we got down to a flat stretch, and looked at Half Dome in all its majestic entirety, I really couldn’t believe I’d made it up to the top of the thing . . . and back down.
I’m still gloriously sore. But yay, no more Sunday mornings on Mission Peak for a while!
