Degrees of kindness

We finally got a filing cabinet. It was free. Chris’ friend Amy’s friend Michael; whose employer was getting rid of filing cabinets; transported it to his house. Marcella and Terry lent us their van to pick up the cabinet. Chris and Tom helped us move it up from the dining room into the study.

I spent yesterday afternoon happily engrossed in sorting, filing, or tossing paper ephemera from the colony of shopping bags in which I had accumulated notes and clippings and flyers in the past few years, since our small filing cabinet had reached capacity (two days after its purchase.)

Having a big new filing cabinet to fill is so much more exciting than a pristine new journal to write on. Not just because I can reduce clutter, but now I’ll be able retrieve things I put away.
